Erdogan Discusses with Von Der Leyen to Discuss US-Israeli Attacks on Iran
During the call, Erdogan emphasized the urgent need for all parties to return to diplomacy and dialogue, highlighting Türkiye’s willingness to provide full support for any peace initiatives. He also underlined the importance of close coordination and consultation between Türkiye and the European Union to help stabilize the region and prevent further escalation.
The discussion comes after a joint US-Israeli military operation on Saturday targeted several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which Tehran responded to with drone and missile strikes against US assets, Israel, and multiple Gulf countries.
Erdogan and von der Leyen also recalled that a similar US-Israeli attack on Iran last June led to a 12-day conflict before a ceasefire was agreed, reinforcing the need for proactive diplomatic engagement to avoid repeating such crises.
