Gaza Death Toll Hits 72,988 as Israeli Strikes Kill 8 More
The figures were disclosed in the ministry's daily statistical bulletin, which offered no further detail on the circumstances surrounding the casualties. The Israeli army has continued to carry out shelling and gunfire operations in violation of a ceasefire agreement that has nominally been in force since Oct. 10, 2025.
Since that truce took effect, the ministry reported that at least 978 people have been killed and a further 3,097 injured in ongoing Israeli attacks — underscoring the fragility of the agreement.
The ceasefire was brokered following two years of what the ministry characterized as a genocidal war launched by Israel on Oct. 8, 2023. Beyond the staggering human cost, the conflict has inflicted catastrophic damage on the territory's physical fabric, with an estimated 90% of civilian infrastructure rendered non-functional. The United Nations has placed the bill for reconstruction at approximately $70 billion.
